Detroit Institute of Music Education (D.I.M.E.) and Axis Music will be streaming an 8 hour music marathon live on Facebook in order to raise money to provide instruments and music lessons for the kids of the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program.  The motto of the program is “books before boxing” as they have kids work with tutors to complete their school work before the boxing begins. The boxing angle is used to get kids interested, but the goal is to get kids off of the street, have them graduate high school and go to college. So far their graduation rate is 100% and over 90% of the kids have gone on to college. There are currently 147 kids sponsored into the program via corporate and private donors with a waiting list of over 800 kids. It’s quite a remarkable space with great energy and former Eminem producer Jeff Bass recently built a recording studio within the facility. It is our goal to now raise money to provide music education for these remarkable kids.

Here is how we will do it:

WHEN: Sunday, Dec. 31st from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

WHERE: DIME Detroit (3 stages)

Every “like” that the live stream gets will earn a $2 donation and every share will earn the program a $10 pledge courtesy of a community of generous donors. The more viral this goes, the more money raised! No money will be required from online viewers unless they’d like to donate personally.
