An Evening with Chad Smith
(Drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Monday June 16, 2014 7pm – 9:30pm
at the Berman Center for Performing Arts
Three community groups have teamed up to bring an unprecedented event to the Birmingham – Bloomfield community. Bloomfield Hills native Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, is heading back to his roots with a visit to Birmingham and surrounding areas on Monday June 16, 2014. The Birmingham Historical Museum, Birmingham Community Coalition (BBCC) Axis Music Academy and Axis Music Foundation are organizing an afternoon and evening with Chad Smith that will offer the community three different opportunities to enjoy Smith’s company and talent. All proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit organizations.
Gary Graff, an award-winning music journalist and author, will interview Smith regarding the importance of music education and how music can positively influence kid’s lives. Following the interview Smith will perform with the lucky winner of the BBCC’s Summer Battle of the Bands, in addition to Axis Music ensembles. The Battle of the Bands is sponsored by the BBCC Youth Action Board and offers local high school teens an opportunity to compete in Birmingham’s Shain Park as a kick of to the city’s In the Park Concert Series. For more information about the Battle of the Bands visit www.bbcoalition.org
Ticket pricing: $17 for 17 years and under; $27 for 18 years and older. Seating is reserved; tickets may be purchased at the Berman box office from 10am – 4pm or online at www.theberman.org/boxoffice or at the Berman on the day of the event up to two hours prior to the event.
Proceeds from the event will support the creation of the Joan and Curt Smith Scholarship at Axis Music Foundation, anti-drug and pro-music programs at the BBCC, and the Birmingham Historical Museum.
