The First Step
“THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP.” – CHINESE PROVERB
Even before you take your first lesson at Axis, our Enrollment Directors will take you through an interview process and team you up with the teacher best suited for your music taste, current ability, and overall goals. Our Compatibility Guarantee ensures that you have a great match – if ever you are not satisfied for any reason, let us know and we will transfer you to an instructor that better suits you.
“PROPER PLANNING AND PREPARATION PREVENTS POOR PERFORMANCE.” – STEVEN KEAGUE
During each Axis Music private lesson, the four essential elements of the Axis Method are covered:
- Theory: Become familiar with time signatures, song structures, musical modes, and instrumentation.
- Vocabulary: Learn essential music terms, read notation, tablature, chords, and identify symbols and signs.
- Technique: Get your hands on your instrument, play solo or with accompaniment, master the metronome, and develop a repertoire of chords and tunes.
- Fun Stuff: Learn your favorite songs, develop your own playing style, improvise with your instructor, write original music, and whatever else motivates and excites you!
“BY FAILING TO PREPARE, YOU ARE PREPARING TO FAIL.” – BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
At your first lesson, we will provide you with your Axis Music binder, so be sure to keep it with you during lessons and practice times. Each lesson studio is outfitted with all of the equipment necessary to make your learning experience smooth and efficient. You’ll meet your instructor, discuss your musical tastes, your learning style, and we’ll layout both short and long term goals. Once you leave your instructor will then create a lesson plan specific to you based on everything involved.
“PRACTICE DOES NOT MAKE PERFECT, PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT.” – TIM ANTONE
Your instructor will provide you with clear directions on what and how to practice at home, which is extremely important. We make practicing music fun by teaching your favorite songs as well as other relevant material. Recommended practice times vary from student to student, but as a simple rule, do your best to pick up your instrument every day and follow your instructor’s recommendations. The more you practice the RIGHT WAY, the better you will become!
“NO ONE JUST WANTS TO TAKE LESSONS…EVERYONE WANTS TO LEARN TO PLAY!” – JOHN ANTONE
One of the best ways to improve, build confidence, and stay motivated, is to perform music in front of an audience. We provide many opportunities for you to show off your growing talent in a safe, encouraging, and positive environment. Student showcases, public performances, and individual competitions are just a few of the ways you’ll get stage experience through Axis. Before the big day though, we will prepare you. Our rehearsal spaces allow for training and coaching of your stage presence before the big gig. Wherever you play, remember playing music should always be fun and expressive. After all, music doesn’t exist until it is shared
